Earlier new year was celebrated according to Roman culture, which only had 10 months in their calendar. And it was celebrated every March 1st, as March 1st was said to be the first day of new year. But in Gregorian calendar, it was 1st January, that was celebrated as New Year Day. And after wards Romans also adopted this culture only and till then, it became the tradition to celebrate New Year on 1st January.

What we do in new year:

New year is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country. People greet each other by giving them new year wishes. New year brings a lot of positive energy among every one. Every one gets so energetic. They do planning over how to celebrate this year. For celebrating the new beginning of the year, some people go out on a holiday to celebrate this day. Some celebrate it in their homes only, by arranging a get together in their homes. All get so much cheered to welcome the new year.

New Year Resolutions and From Where It is Originated:

New Year resolutions are the promises that we make to ourselves only, that how we will celebrate our whole year. What all we will do and what not. And work according to the resolutions only. And also make promises to ourselves that whatever we were unable to do in the last year, we will try to achieve it all in this year.

But the tradition is believed to be made by modern Americans. But it isn’t the truth. The tradition came into forge some 4000 years ago  when Babylonians rang in their new year with an 11-day festival in March, and ancient Egyptians celebrated the advent of their new calendar during the Nile River’s annual flood. By 46 B.C., Roman emperor Julius Caesar had moved the first day of the year to January 1st in honor of the Roman god of beginnings, Janus. However, in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII brought the January 1st New Year back in vogue with the Gregorian calendar — a concept that persists today.
