Set in Kent and London in the mid-19th century, the mature, bildungsroman story is saturated with sinister themes like poverty, classism, moral corruption, imperialism, and more.

In an official statement, Knight previously said he would do the series. He said, “I chose ‘Great Expectations’ as my next work to bring to the screen, not only because of the timeless characters, but also because of the very current story. A story of class mobility and class intransigence, told through an intensely emotional and personal first-person narrative. As the son of a blacksmith myself, Pip’s journey from blacksmithing to society is very special to me.
The series has Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, others as executive producers.
Great Expectations does not yet have a release date.
