Students from around the world gathered around school flag poles on Wednesday to boldly seek God together.
They were participating in the 21st annual âSee you soon at the Poleâ (SYATP) Prayer Gathering where students come together before school to lift their friends, families, teachers and nation to God. It is an event initiated, organized by students and led by students.
The event involves students from elementary schools, middle / high schools, high schools and colleges / universities across the country and around the world.
According to the SYATP organization’s website, it’s just one thing: prayer. The theme of the event this year is a Bible verse found in the New Testament:
âHumble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. “– James 4:10
Beginning in 1990 as a grassroots movement, the student-led event has spread to over 64 countries with over one million participants.
The event is part of a series of weeklong events and this year’s theme is “Just Pray”.
There is no sponsor for the SYATP event. A diverse mix of about 100 faiths, nonprofit ministries, and other organizations are listed as âSupport Ministriesâ that promote, endorse, or otherwise support student prayer gathering.
Here is a small sample of images from the many SYATP events that have been posted on social media. Some student groups even posted their local prayer event live on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or Instagram.
Some Christian schools have even incorporated music into their local event, such as the one at the First Baptist School in Brownsville, Texas.
