On Sunday, June 5, the foggy bay of San Francisco provided an exciting backdrop for the nearly 2,000 athletes who competed in the 41st Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.
The race includes a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to shore, with athletes splashing in 57.3°F (14.0°C) water. This is followed by an 18 mile bike ride and an 8 mile run through San Francisco.
Eric Lagerstrom and Jackie Hering won first place in the men’s and women’s pro division.
