It’s been over a year since the cast was announced for the highly anticipated Sandman Netflix series based on the writer’s acclaimed comic book series. Neil Gaiman and featuring Tom Sturridge as Dream/Morpheus, the titular character. Aside from some behind-the-scenes content during last year’s Geeked Week, five-day virtual fan event, news about the Sandman, including an official release date, remained in the news last year. black. However, today the streaming giant not only unveiled the details of the return of Geek Week in June but also new images of The sand man.
Not only is Sturrige introduced as Morpheus, but we also see him conversing with Matthew the Raven voiced by Patton Oswalt. Here’s hoping Netflix releases footage of her performance as the character soon. But most intriguing is probably our best look at Gwendoline Christie like Lucifer.
The portrayal of Lucifer in the Netflix series is very much in line with the david bowie look inspired in the “Season of the Mists” storyline as opposed to the live-action series version played by Tom Ellis.
Additionally, the Netflix Geeked Week virtual event trailer featured new footage from The sand man with like Lucifer welcoming Morpheus to hell.
Other cast members for Netflix Sand seller the series includes Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death; non-binary actor Mason Alexander as Desire; Donna Preston like Despair; Jenna Coleman like Johanna Constantin, David Thewlis as John Dee; Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Dream’s librarian and sidekick; Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, the frightening killer; ; Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, “Charlatan, blackmailer and magician”; and Asim Chaudry like Abel; Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain, the first victim and the first predator, and the residents and loyal subjects of the Dream Realm.
The long-awaited series is coming to Netflix at some point in the future, with Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) as showrunner. Gaiman, Heinberg and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation) are the executive producers and co-writers of the project – an experienced team that knows comics and film quite well.
The sand man debuted in 1989 and instantly became a fantasy classic exploring Dream and the world of infinity, six immortal beings and the humans who interact with them, with sometimes tragic results.
Over the past 30 years The sand man has been one of the holy grails for media adaptation, but all the time that has passed has only served to improve the technology and, realistically, the series’ platform.
Given the recent misfortunes for Netflix notably losing 200,000, the streaming service urgently needs to score a hit not only with The Sandman but also with its other upcoming content.
Tune in June 6-10 to see more footage from The sand man and I hope for a release date announcement!
