Prime Video has shared two first images of the new Rockford Peaches in their upcoming round of reboots A league apart. A league apartwhich is now a full-fledged media franchise, began as a 1992 Penny Marshall film starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna and Lori Petty, loosely adapting the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which premiered in the early 1940s. A TV adaptation of the story hit the screen the following year, starring Sam McMurray, Carey Lowell and Christine Elise (who was recently seen reprising the Kyle’s role in the chucky television series), but it only lasted five episodes, with the last remaining unaired.

Now that enough time has passed, Prime Video is taking over with a new series adaptation of A league apart, which will premiere on the streaming service later this year. The series was co-created by Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham and stars Jacobson alongside Nick Offerman, Lil Frex, Roberta Colindrez, Kate Berlant, Rae Gray, D’Arcy Carden, Melanie Field and Molly Ephraim. This show, which will also tell stories more specific to the experiences of LGBTQ+ people and people of color at the time, will also include a storyline about black baseball player Max Chapman, played by Chanté Adams, who recently starred alongside by Michael B. EO just shared a series of exclusive never-before-seen images from A league apart. The first image shows the whole team together for the first time, in uniform in the locker room. The second image is more intimate, showing an interaction between Max and his best friend Clance Morgan, played by Gbemisola Ikumelo (who previously starred in the BBC comedy sketch series Famalam) during what appears to be a lunch break. Check out the images below:

This isn’t the first time Prime Video has adapted a movie property into a TV series. They have already released series based on I know what you did last summer and Hana. Still, this will be the first time they’ve tackled a series with the cultural cache of A league apart. Not much is known about the series except for the cast and what’s already known about the franchise, but this promising first look gives audiences an idea of what to expect for the upcoming reboot.

Luckily, these photos seem to capture the spirit of the times well without sacrificing color and interesting compositions. Hopefully, this approach will also apply to storytelling. As long as A league apart can capture a vibrant and fun narrative with compelling characters, they can overcome the enormous obstacles that come with adapting such a beloved property. One of those hurdles will be updating the series with more modern sensibilities, and by all accounts, it looks like the series just might pull it off.
