OnePlus releases Nord CE 2 5G images and confirms specs

The next OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G is just around the corner, and the first official images and specs are finally here. The budget phone will be unveiled on February 17. It is expected to cost around $400 and be released in European and Asian markets.

In an exclusive interview for Tech Radar, OnePlus product manager Oliver Zhang has shared information about the upcoming phone.

Images of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G show a simple-looking smartphone in a new color the company is calling Bahana Blue. This color is lighter and more metallic than Nord CE’s previous Blue Void color release.

Zhang also confirmed that the next phone will have a second color option called Gray Mirror.

As for the design of the back of the Nord CE, it is a bit familiar. The camera module is mid-sized, housing a triple-camera system with two of the sensors looking quite large. What’s familiar with the module are its rounded corners that rise out of the back of the phone and curve around. It’s a similar design to OnePlus’ sister brand Oppo and its Find X3 Pro.

Interestingly, the back design looks more like the Oppo budget phone than the new OnePlus 10 Pro. It also doesn’t look like the old OnePlus 9 series. This decision could have been made so that companies can save costs, as an Oppo Nord CE 2 clone is very likely to be released later in Asia.

There are no photos of the front or sides of the Nord CE 2 5G. Previously leaked renders of the phone suggest it will have a conservative-looking front design with a punch-hole selfie camera located on the left. The side display bezels look quite small with the phone having a bigger chin.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 specs confirmed

Zhang didn’t just talk design with TechRadar. The product manager for OnePlus has also confirmed some of the specs for the upcoming phone.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G will have a 4,500 mAh battery. The phone will support 65W fast wired charging, capable of delivering up to a day’s worth of power in just 15 minutes of charging. Full 0-100% charge time is unconfirmed, but we expect it to be under an hour.

OnePlus has confirmed that the Nord CE 2 5G will have a microSD card slot, but it has now emerged that the slot will support up to 1TB of expandable storage. There is no confirmation from Zhang for the rest of the phone’s specs.

According to leaks, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G will most likely use the same display and camera system as its predecessor, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. This means that the phone will feature a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution.

The three-camera system will likely consist of a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 2MP macro camera.

What’s reported as new about the OnePlus Nord CE 5G is its processor. The budget phone will allegedly feature MediaTek’s 5G-enabled Dimensity 900 chip. It will likely be paired with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage depending on which version you choose.

The fingerprint reader must be integrated into the screen. The Nord CE 5G will also likely have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
