With a trailer, brand new images for Netflix’s adaptation of the iconic English novelist Jane Austenit is Persuasion came out today. dakota johnson (Fifty Shades of grey) plays twenty-seven-year-old Anne Elliot, an intelligent and attractive Englishwoman who, like many of Austen’s female protagonists, is still single despite the social conventions of the time.
At the age of nineteen, Anne falls in love with a young naval officer named Frederick Wentworth, played by Cosmo Jarvis (Lady Macbeth). However, Anne’s snobby family members considered the engagement to be reckless and that Wentworth was under Anne’s status and so persuaded her to break off the engagement. Seven years later, the Elliot family is now in financial difficulty but, as fate would have it, Wentworth reappears in Anne’s life. Now Anne is faced with a choice. She must decide whether she is ready to completely put her past behind her or listen to her heart and allow herself to accept the second chance life has thrown her way.
The movie poster shows Anne kissing a love interest. There was a conscious choice not to show the full face of the man as there is a romantic triangle at the center of the film’s plot and for those unfamiliar with Austen’s story, just with the trailer and the images, it is not easy to determine who Anne will choose as her husband in the end. The newly released images showcase the main characters and the exquisite costumes and sets, which certainly have a Bridgerton feel for them.
